Facebook is now sharing how many posts a day each page publishes within their on-platform search results.

This option was likely designed to give a regular user some idea about what to expect from each page but can also provide additional context for social media marketers who are trying to gain a better understanding of their optimal posting schedule.

As we know, traditional Facebook best practices recommend we post 2 times a day, seven days a week, in between the hours of 10 am and 3 pm, as you don’t want to overwhelm your audience’s newsfeed. With the magic number being 1-2 posts per day (which is recommended) this will help keep your page top of mind without pushing the boundaries of those who follow you.

The evolution of the News Feed algorithm has changed that slightly. According to Facebook’s own advice for journalists, published as part of their Facebook for Journalists certification program, pages should look to: [1]

“Post frequently – Don’t worry about over-posting. The goal of News Feed is to show each person the most relevant story, so not all your posts are guaranteed to show in their feeds” [1]

Facebook notes that some pages post as much as 80 times a day and see good results. These are newer pages, so they generally have more timely content to publish, but given limitations on post reach, which now means you will be lucky to have 5% of your audience see each of your posts, it makes sense that posting more frequently can show benefits.

Now you have an easy way to benchmark your page against your competitor’s page. Start a search – be sure to click on the specific “Pages” tab – to see how often they are posting on their page. Are the more successful Pages publishing more frequently than yours? It’s worth considering! [1]
