What are Google Posts?

When you log into your Google My Business Account and click on the “Posts” tab on the left-hand menu while in Google business listing, a page should appear where you can write your post, add your image, or add a title for an event. Users will have access to a call-to-action button which includes the options “Learn More”, “Reserve”, “Sign Up”, and more!

This gives businesses the ability to share daily specials or current promotions that will engage new and existing customers, promote events and let customers know about upcoming happenings, showcase top products, emphasize new products, and give customers a one-click path to make a reservation, sign up for a newsletter, learn more about latest offers, or make a purchase. Posts appear in both Google search and Google Maps.

It’s FREE!

Google Posts is a quick and easy way to enhance the experience for people searching for your business. Using Google Posts to promote your business organically costs you nothing! Just as a post on Facebook would be, but now reaching a much wider audience. Why wouldn’t you want to try it?

  1. Google Posts do not integrate with Google Analytics naturally so make sure there is URL event tracking in place. By creating a custom URL to use in the call-to-action link, you can preview more information about the users in Google Analytics and then find out how they converted after visiting your site.
  2. Use Google Posts to emphasize sales, promotions, or a unique selling proposition. Please note, keyword stuffing your post content will not have an impact on your search rankings.
  3. Use the image size of 750×750, anything smaller than 250×250 will not be accepted.
  4. Be cautious on the first 100 characters you choose, those will be what shows in the Knowledge Panel. Make them count and don’t let your sentence get cut off.
  5. The newest post will always show first, the older ones will appear in a carousel format.
  6. Images should be “center-weighted” so they appear properly and do not cut off parts of the image you want to be shown.
  7. Posts have unique URLs so you can share by clicking on the posts.
  8. Posts only stay live for 7 days, so POST OFTEN! There is no current way to schedule posts and events will stay live until the event ends.
  9. Animated GIFs and videos are not currently supported.
  10. Unlike Google Plus Posts, the URLs to the post do not get indexed by Google.
